Whew, this Modern Rustic Boy’s Bedroom Reveal has been a long time in the making. The space has been finsihe for a few weeks, but a little delay waiting for something to arrive in the mail, then a huge wrench thrown in the mix when our house was broke into. Anyhow, here we are a few weeks behind schedule, but I’m so in love with my little guys new space I’m not letting the setback bother me!
Ta-dah, what do you think?
Let me remind you what his baby room looked like…
Not terrible, just needed to be freshened up, and given a space he could grow into.
The Paint
The colors my son (the green was his idea) and I chose were Grassy Meadow PPG206-6 | Obsidian PPG1035-7 | Delicate White PPG518-1 from PPG Voice of Color. The green actually looks a bit duller in person.
The bookcase I built is working out perfect for his space, you can read about that furniture DIY here.
The Art Work
The gallery wall is one of my favourite parts of the space. Some old some new, makes the perfect modern rustic combination. The new pieces are from Shutterfly.
I ordered the toad photo (unfortunately Fernando passed on a few days after his photoshoot) in a 16 x 16 wood wall art, an Adventure Awaits luggage tag using their art library, two mini metal prints from scanned vintage photos from my Dad’s album, and a 10 x 10 plate with Levi and his chicken (he really loves this one).
The other items I had gathered from my aunts house and the animal prints were from an old dictionary.
The Windows
The existing blinds in this room serve the task of filtering the sun from two north facing windows. To tie the look together I created a small faux roman shade made from Sunbrella Frequency Parchment fabric. This is one of my favourite fabric patterns it really goes with everything, and in this space it is reminiscent of birch bark. Check out the runner I made from this same fabric here.
Let’s talk area rug… this Green Textures flat woven beauty is from Rugs USA. After putting a rug down in our Master Bedroom Makeover I’ve got rug fever, and when you can get awesome rugs like this one from the clearance rack for $79 (yes, less than $100) you don’t pass up a good deal like that.
The Accessories
The rug makes the perfect place to play and read a little book.
This salvaged metal wash basin, was rescued with a little spray paint on the inside, and has made the perfect toy box.
Levi was lucky enough to receive this little set of antlers from is Grampie (which were his dads). There is a wonderful story to go along with them, that really makes them a bit more sentimental.
Remember last Christmas I made a birch centre piece, I had a little slip of the wallpaper left that made the perfect background for my hexagon wall shelves. Levi loves having a place to hang his Instax photos, read about it here.
I found this Jenny Lind bed on a yard sale site, I bought it with the intention of painting it, but the natural distressed wood worked perfect with the other vintage rustic elements. We did run into a little snafu with the mattress begin a tiny bit too wide for the frame, apparently standard has changed over the years, but a little handy work, and we have it all put together.
I’m so happy you’ve joined me to have a look at this Modern Rustic Boy’s Bedroom Reveal.

Looks great! Something he’ll be able to grow into nicely. Am thinking of a makeover for my 6-year old son’s room and I really like the colours you used and wall accents. That little farm set is adorable too!
Wonderful room. I’m sure he LOVES being in a big boy room. 🙂
fantastic! love the wall over the bed and those adorable hexigon shelves. thanks so much for sharing on craft schooling Sunday!
Thanks for stopping by!
This looks fantastic! I am working on my little guy’s room (updating from nursery to toddler space) and went with a similar green as an accent colour to blue and am just in love with how it brightens up the space. I also really like the hexagon display boxes you used – a nice change from the standard square and oval!
Thanks Heidi! I love how the space has been brightened up too!
I love it! Made with taste. Green wall color suits perfectly. This is one my favorite colors too. Who wouldn’t wan to live in such room?)
