Christmas Table Centrepiece- One Item Challenge

Whoa, what?!!! Week 3 of the One Item Project Challenge already?! The team has brought you some awesome projects over the past two weeks, and this week will be no different. This time we are working with Wallpaper from Spoonflower! Very beautiful wallpaper I might add.

It was so hard to choose a pattern to work with. However, I wanted to keep with the theme of Christmas projects so I chose this small white birch pattern, I figured that would mesh well with the rustic woodland theme that has been going on around here these days.

 I professed my love for natural Christmas decorations about 100 times this season, like with my natural wreaths, and swags, so I wanted to bring a bit of that to our dining room Christmas decor. A great big table piece would be perfect for holding lots of greenery.

Building your own Christmas table decor is easy! I followed the wood box tutorial from Shanty to Chic and the Idea Room. I found these little furniture feet at The Home Depot for only $1 a piece and I thought they would make a cute addition to a basic wood box.

Here is how to attach the feet

Place the box frame onto the bottom and trace inside with a pencil so you know where to place the feet holes. Drill a hole in each corner, tap a helicoil into each hole (found in the fasteners isle). The claws on the helicoil will dig into the wood, so when you screw the legs on they will tighten properly.

Next step is to apply the Spoonflower wallpaper to the wood box. Here is how…

• Using a rotary cutter, (or a yardstick and a xacto knife) cut the wallpaper to size for the long sides, adding a 1/2″ to each side for wrapping around.
• For the two small ends, cut a square, that measures exactly from edge to edge
• Slowly apply the self adhesive wall paper a small portion at a time, and using the included scraper to smooth it down as you go.
• Cut a small slit int the overhang and fold the edges down. Apply the square of paper to the ends.
• Attach the feet.
• To secure the paper on the top I added small trim board, but that is totally optional.

This makes a great Christmas table decoration, but would also look great on a mantle or side table.

Filling the box with greenery was easy. I simply added two floral foam squares to the box and poked the candles and greenery right in place.

I love how the birch wallpaper coordinates so well with everything. Spoonflower is wonderful because they sell pieces by the foot so you can easily use it for crafting without having to buy an entire roll! I was very suprised by the texture of the wallpaper, it feels like fabric.
