Renovation Challenge Week 3

We are in week 3 of the Renovation Challenge, behind the scene week was not pretty and had very little wow factor.  It was all about what makes a functional kitchen tick.

Let’s take a minute to recap Week 1 if you’re playing catch-up. I’m one of 12 designers competing in a 6 Week Renovation Challenge where one of us will walk away with a $5k dream vacation! The kitchen in the Harmony Home is getting a complete overhaul, take a look at the before.

First thing, the remainder of the cabinets were moved out… and sold! Selling the cabinets went a long way in helping with the budget. Since the snowball of week 2 my budget is starting to look like a snowman, not just a snowball!

Electrical work was the big task this week. I had two wall sconces on the east wall added, moved power for the stove, updated receptacles and switches, motion sensors for the pantry, and under cabinet lighting, and rewired old pot lights to go over the island.

Not to mention the countless hours spent online to find the perfect light fixtures… to find out a few days later they would be on backorder for nearly a month! I had planned to do a ceiling treatment, but rather than make things too busy up there, I’m just going to mimic the existing beam, so not all the ceiling will have to be cut up!

The best part about this week? It was like Christmas, everything I ordered began to roll in! Jeffrey Court Tile, New appliances, cabinet hardware and wall sconces, I just really love parcel day!
