Spring 2019 One Room Challenge- Week 1

Can you believe I’ve never participated in a One Room Challenge?! Sure I’ve done my fair share of room makeovers, many in less than 6 weeks. I’m so excited to be part of the 2019 Spring One Room Challenge. If you’re not sure what ORC is, designers are challenged to recreate a space in just 6 weeks, you can read more about the details on their site.

You all know I’ve recently moved into a new home. The first room I redesigned was the kitchen. This front room (currently a dining room) is the entryway into the airy fresh modern farmhouse kitchen. The front room is terribly underused and basically a dumping ground for kid crap. It is the first space you see when you come in the door, so it is in bad need of some pretty decor.

First things first, the red really needs to go. I would have painted it months ago, but it goes up 17′ so that is easier said than done. I’ve been trying to figure out how to separate the height so I can change the color when I please… without having to get in a fleet of staging.

The Front Room Plan

Pretty farmhouse sitting room inspiration. An eclectic mix of mid century modern and natural elements mixed with soft pastels with a punch of color

The once unused dining room is going to become a sitting room! With walls of windows it is bright, welcoming and needs to be transformed into a space that is inviting for family time and guests.

6 week to-do list

  • Paint walls
  • New furniture
  • Drapes
  • Shelf decor
  • Art work
  • Area Rug
  • Lighting

If time is on my side, I hope to address the entrance as well. New tile, shoe storage, and closet organization. Fingers crossed the terrible swirly light reminiscent of 1995 will go too!

Here we go… Spring 2019 One Room Challenge is underway!

  1. This is exciting!
Question- do you try and keep a familiar/similar color pattern from room to room (in case you want to move your furniture around) or do you treat each room independently and use what appeals to you?

    1. I try to have a overall approach so rooms flow from one to another. However, I really like color so I amp up my accents with fun pops of color and pattern.

  2. Oh yessss! I see a lot of farmhouse looks, but I’m digging this feel. It’s like a rustic mid-century modern theme. Love the color palette. So excited how you transform the space.

    1. Thank you Tamara, Although I live in the country… and in a legit farmhouse. I can’t go full on country home, ha… I like color too much! Thanks for visiting
