It is the final reveal day of my Colorful Modern Living Room Design for the One Room Challenge!

Before we dive in too deep, let me remind you what the front room looked like just 6 weeks ago…
Before the Colorful Living Room Makeover

The old dining room was very red, the furniture was too small scale for the high ceiling and a space that was rarely used… take note of the cobwebs hanging from the light, ha.
Colorful Modern Living Room Ideas

My biggest splurge in this room makeover was by far the furniture. I don’t think I’ve ever bought all new furniture for a makeover, so I had to be resourceful to stay on budget.

I found the olive green sofa at Structube, and the yellow velvet mid-century modern chair and end table at Homesense. The pieces were around $1300.

I purchased the glass coffee table at a local discount decor store and made the small end table from a thrift store stool.

In week 2 I shared the living room paint color ideas from Sherwin Williams. Intimate White SW6322 is so perfect in here, so soft and happy (the name is a bit misleading since it is the soft pink color)!

The Drapes and Pillows

The drapes I made set the tone for the modern sitting room. It was my first crack at pleated drapes, I think they went over quite well! The floral pattern is ‘Color Splash’ pattern in Cameo from Maxwell Fabrics. I really love the pillow fabric ‘Yucca’ in Starfruit from Maxwell as well. Check out all the samples I had to choose from in week 4.

Many of the accessories I used in the room were from Anatolia a shop local to me, where I love to find little hidden treasures.

The Sitting Room Shelf Styling

I don’t think I’ve ever styled these shelves so simply. Trying my best to reduce the clutter! See how the shelf was styled in my old house here.

I still managed to incorporate some of my thrift store depression glass into the mix!

We couldn’t go without an element of surprise. I wanted a pretty, well designed modern living room but not one that was stuffy like the plastic covered furniture of ‘the good living room’ of years gone by. To give the room a touch of juvenile charm we fixed up an old gumball machine… the kids basically think they won the jackpot!

It is a small space, but with all the natural light it really works well as a sitting room.
