Guys I have to admit, this is a bit of a lame tutorial. I was so excited to rip into a box of treats from my friends at Silhouette (which was at about 11 pm) that I dove right into playing and didn’t take many process photos. I threw my project together without much of a thought. But I have to tell you I LOVE my new Etching and Stippling tool; Etching Metal with the Silhouette Curio is too easy!
To get started with metal etching you will need Metal etching sheets and a Etching and Stippling tool.
I started this project just testing out some different small designs on some colored metal etching sheets. It is the same process you would typically do if you were cutting a design.
Place your design on the cut mat, under cut settings choose ‘Metal Etching Sheets’ for tool 1 and send your project to the Curio.
You’d think by the thickness of the metal sheets you’d have to use it as a solid piece, but it easily cut with a pair of kitchen shears. I rounded the edges and decided it needed to be used for jewelry!
Attaching the metal to a strip of leather is so easy. You can follow my Leather Key Fob tutorial to see how.
Wouldn’t these make such a fun little gift? You could use the design to create key chains, name tags, pet ID tags, the possibilities are endless with your Silhouette Curio.
You can’t wait to try Metal Etching, can you?
Here is your chance… Silhouette is giving away a Silhouette Curio. All you have to do is check out their Instagram to enter!
