Restaurant Bathroom Makeover

Whew, this Restaurant Bathroom Makeover was the biggest overhaul I think I’ve ever participated in… pssst, besides the painting I didn’t actually do much of the work, just the boss lady! At the first of the week I shared all the details of how the renovation rolled out. I came up with a vision and with the help of The Home Depot, Delta Faucet Canada, and Ryobi  (plus my brother and family) these two not so easy on the eye bathrooms were transformed into a pretty powder room, and a classy masculine retreat.

The Ladies Room

Ahh, much better! The Chic Peach paint is so feminine and sweet, you can’t help but feel pretty.

The Men’s Room

I really can’t tell you how the men feel (or even if they notice anything has changed) but I absolutely love the color combination of this space. I just have to find where I’m going to use it in my own home!

Before the Restaurant Bathroom Makeover

In my last post I shared a variety of before photos, but let me recap…

Even if you can get beyond the colors, the walls in both spaces had a tissue paper faux finish that was impossible to recover. Between my brother and I, we decided the most cost effective quick fix would be to panel the wall with meranti (flooring underlay, called Virola plywood too) and use ripped MDF strips in a grid pattern to cover the seams. Andd bam, beautiful bathrooms!

As you can see we kept the existing vanities. I used my Ryobi One+ Circular Saw to notch out the edges of the existing frame, and simply added 2- 1×3 boards to the middle to create two faux drawers. I added hardware from D.Lawless Hardware to complete the look.

The vanities with these stunning vessel sinks from The Home Depot and Delta faucets are really the star of the show.

Going from two sinks down to one was an easy decision with these beauties. The whole look gives the appearance of a home washroom, rather than a commercial space, much warmer.

The backsplash tiles were a last minute decision (but ultimately a great one). Once we got thinking about the combination of water and MDF; luckily The Home Depot has lots of beautiful in-stock tiles that coordinated well with the in-stock countertop we chose.

I love that Delta also has pieces coordinating to the faucets, the subtle metal touches in these spaces are perfect.

Because we didn’t go with traditional faucet finishes, the vanity trays, toilet paper holders and purse hooks really added a classy hotel vibe to the restrooms.

I’m not going to lie, shopping for lighting for these two restrooms was a bit stressful. I wanted to make a statement with something industrial, but with the limited space, low ceilings, and the fact the outlet was directly over the stalls made the choices slim. However, while shopping at The Home Depot I discovered an industrial style pendant that had a chain which got me thinking that the lights didn’t have to be stationary. Captain Electrical (aka my hubby) was able to remove the rods the lights should have hung from and used chain which allowed us to hang the light in a more central spot.

The Home Depot has a great selection of industrial lighting options that are very reasonably priced.

I have to admit I like the men’s room a tiny bit more than the ladies, that color combo just gets me!

At the start we didn’t have the budget to replace the flooring, but after we gutted everything else, we soon justified the expense. Luckily there was an instock fiber floor solution we were able to work with.

The Paint

Each space had its own unique color scheme, with a few colors incorporated from the dining room of the restaurant.

 For both spaces I used a satin finish for the walls, and semi gloss for the stalls, vanity and baseboards, that will washable to keep things tidy and smelling fresh.

I’m so pleased how this Restaurant Bathroom Makeover came together. We stayed very close to our budget and achieved a more modern comfortable atmosphere for our customers. I hope you’ll stop in to see The Union Street in person!
