Please prepare yourself for the oeey gooey girly sweetness that this project is oozing because this FREE little girl purse pattern is so cute!
Aren’t these purses just so sweet? Every little girl loves to pretend play and with this little tote, they can be just like mom!
This Little Girl Purse Pattern only takes a few supplies;
- 1 fat quarter
- felt
- piping
- seam binding
- velcro
- button (but more on that in the download below).

Once you have mastered the basic pattern you can embellish the purse how you please. A few embellishing suggestions are- pom-poms, a cute keychain (I love these ones from The Handmade Home), a lip gloss holder (like this one from Crazy Litte Projects), you could even embroider a Monogram (like this one from Flamingo Toes).

Thank you so much! I came here to see your crochet cowl and found this pattern as well. My daughter is only 8 months old right now, but my 5 year old son is always snagging my purses. He is at his “I want anything I think is pretty – who cares if it is supposed to be for a girl” stage. I can let him pick the fabric and anything he wants to personalize it and he can have his own purse. I am a little tired of finding Hot Wheels in all my purses. This purse is absolutely delightful! I made one this morning for my daughter to give at a birthday party this afternoon. The recipient loved it (and so did her mom!). Couple of notes from my experience–I found that the purse bottom piece was not quite long enough for me. I was using a beautiful wool felt and it doesn’t have the kind of stretch that acrylic felt does, so that could have been it. But also the 19″ of piping wasn’t quite enough either, so maybe it had to do with the way I cut or sewed the purse body pieces. Wrong seam allowance maybe? I had a little bit of trouble with the strap covers but I ended up figuring it out. A few more photos there might help! Lastly, I’m wondering what your sales policy is–do you allow people to sell finished products made from your patterns? Because seriously this is the cutest purse I have ever made–and I have two girls and have made my share of purses! Of course now that the birthday party is over, my girls have picked fabric from the stash to make their own!

I’m so glad I read this! As a beginner I thought I had done something wrong because I found the bottom too short too. Same with the piping (that I had to make for the first time also). I have increased both the bottom and the piping by 1″ and hopefully that sorts it out.
I found the handle covers really confusing and that’s what brought me undone. It was intended for a gift but instead I gave it to my Miss 1 and she LOVED it… I will try again today with a longer base and piping and hopefully it will be gift worthy 🙂

I just finished making this up. It was my first time ever sewing something (besides heming) I had a few minor issues (probably from being so new to sewing) overall it looks great! just in time for my daughters birthday. i know if i make another it will definitely be a lot easier. Love, love the pattern! I had just crocheted a ruffled purse for my niece’s birthday but when I saw this I just had to make this too. Just a few suggestions, on the pattern pieces where it says “cut on fold”, this should read “put on fold”. I too had to make adjustments to get the 19 inch piece of piping to fit..needs a little more wiggle room. Instead of using felt I ironed fabric interfacing of medium weight to the back of the outside fabric and lined the purse in a coordinating print. I also made piping out of the lining print as well as used it in place of the bias tape and used this for the strap cover and flap closure. It turned out so cute! Now will have to make one for my other niece. Thanks for sharing the pattern.
