Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover- Before and After

If you follow along with my insta stories, you would have seen I was helping to spruce up my BF house over the winter to be put on the market. Work is complete, house is up for sale, and fresh decor is just waiting for the right family to come along. This modern farmhouse is a beautiful home with a stunning view, just lacking a bit of decor.  The first and probably biggest of the projects we tackled was the farmhouse kitchen makeover.

It is definitely worth mentioning that I was working on a budget. I didn’t want to do cheap upgrades, more so just mindful where I was spending money, and what to update to get the biggest wow factor.

The Farmhouse Kitchen BEFORE the makeover

You can see there was decent bones to work with, the cabinets were well made, and in a decent color.

Kitchen Updates

  • new countertop
  • new sink
  • new faucet
  • update lighting
  • fresh wall color
  • fill space by wall oven
  • remove clutter
  • add shelving
  • disguise steel beam

The layout of the kitchen is quite nice, you can look out into the front yard while at the sink, into the living room when at the stove (ie. watch TV while you cook) and take in the breathtaking view of the valley while you’re at the breakfast table.

Looking from the living area into the kitchen there was lacking a focal point. Your eyes are drawn to the corner windows, but with a builder grade faucet and standard sink, there wasn’t much to catch the eye. Enter the show stopper…

Delta touch 2o kitchen faucet. Perfect for a farmhouse kitchen sink

This CASSIDY™ Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet with Touch2O Technology and ShieldSpray from Delta Faucet Canada really gave the kitchen the upgrade it needed. Not to mention the more modern countertops in a fresh color from Aura Custom Cabinet Design.

The venetian bronze matches so well with the composite granite sink. I love how clean the single faucet looks and the drop down head powers off the mess without making a mess. You can learn more about all the features including the Touch2O Technology on the Delta Canada site.

Although the design of the kitchen is well laid out there was a few flaws. For instance there was an empty hole beside the wall oven. Unfortunately I didn’t take a before photo at that angle. It seems as if it was where the fridge should have went. I simply took an armoire from the bedroom, had it painted to match and filled the space. It works very well as a pantry.

To add another farmhouse element to the kitchen I made some custom live edge shelves by the stove.

I used Ikea EKBY VALTER brackets (which are only $2!), and simply sanded down some scraps from the pile. I initially put the shelves there for spices etc., but they really add a decorative touch to the otherwise empty wall.

On the opposite side of the kitchen is a breakfast nook. Realistically, most meals are eaten here rather than the dining room, the view is so beautiful.

The space needed a fresh color, window treatments, and new lighting that creates more of a cozy space.

New lighting and dining room chairs from Wayfair, and curtains I sewed really make this space much more cozy and inviting.

Adding simple wainscotting to the surrounding walls really draws the ceiling down and adds to the farmhouse character. And check out the view…

The other element I added into the kitchen to really give it a more farmhouse vibe is the pine beam. The steel beam of course is structural but just wasn’t very charming. With the help of The Home Depot, I used prepped barn boards to incase the beam and give it more of a farmhouse vibe.
