DIY Ribbon Lamp Shade for ‘Light It Up Blue’

When I was asked to create a project for the Autism Awareness campaign ‘Light It Up Blue’, my immediate thought was I need to incorporate light into my project.  I went hunting in my stash and found an old lamp shade that had long lost it luster. I created this DIY ribbon lamp shade, with a few meters of May Arts Ribbon, hot glue, and May Arts silk butterflies, and took my drab shade to fab!

I used 376-1-94 1″grosgrain with a satin edge. I simply ran a bead of hot glue (about 2 inches at a time), pressed the ribbon into it, and pinched it together every 1/2″.  I did this overlapping the glued edge to the top. To conceal the top edge, I folded a strip in half and glued it to the outside and inside edge.

To coordinate this Ribbon lamp into my Sweet Little Girls Bedroom  I added the May Arts silk butterflies, by layering them and hot gluing the body.
