In Bad Need of Closet Storage So I Gave it a Makeover!
I have a closet in my living room that was the junk collector of our house. When we built our home I thought it would be a great place to hang out of season coats and the kids snow suits in the summer. However, I’m not organized enough to switch out our coats and the kids have outgrown their snowsuits between each year, so it just gathered random junk we didn’t want to look at anymore (ie. tax papers, extra table leaf, vacuum).
When hubby bought me a new printer for Mother’s Day I realized I was in need of some sort of closet storage system that could double as office space and a home to kids toys. With a bit of brainstorming and repurposing materials we had lying around, we were able to take our junk closet and make it a functional space.
Quite an improvement, and super functional closet storage!
The best part of this makeover is we only spent $10!! Just the lumber to hold up the countertop, everything else was around the house!
My Father in law had given us an old bathroom vanity that we cut the sink hole from the centre and pieced the two ends together for the counter top. If you look close you can see the seam, but hey it was free!
This is the view opposite the closet (where all the bloggy magic happens). In the previous closet photo you can see the edge of the chair. I sewed a simple slip cover for the office chair to coordinate with the closet (and keep my kids from poking things through the mesh). All I have to do is hit print, spin my chair around, and viola (no running to the basement, like I had to pre-new printer).
Below you’ll see the wooden crates I showed you yesterday, I really do love how they turned out! You can also spot the calendar I made from a frame I found in the ditch.
On the left side of the closet we added a shelving unit we had in our basement, it is the perfect closet storage for books, board games, and toys. The curtain under the counter is hiding our dryer pipes, bit of an eyesore but important to keep accessible. 
The right side of the closet is home to this great bulletin board I gave a facelift with a piece of leftover fabric. You can learn how over at the 36th Avenue, plus, you can see how I repurposed the tart pans with some cute scrap supplies.
I am super happy about my new closet storage system and how practical it is to have a ‘office’ behind doors. The fact that I can hide the kids toys away and have a real home for my work is fantastic, I hope you liked it too!
