A Must See $150 Bathroom Makeover

Remember back at the end of January I was given the honor of the Top DIY project from Stacy Risenmay’s Blog -Not Just a Housewife? In case you missed it, let me fill you in- I entered the Kids Playhouse in the contest, all you sweet folks voted for me, and I won a $250 gift card from the Home Depot!!! It was fabulous, I love going shopping on someone else’s dime! Big thanks to Stacy for hosting such an awesome giveaway!!

So what is a girl to do with $250? Give her dreary bathroom a much needed sprucing up. As I’ve mentioned countless times our house is only 5 years old so its not completely hideous but my entire house is blue and we didn’t have a lot left over for “pretty” after we built.

After my 2 year old ripped the toilet paper holder off the wall I decided the main bath best be the first thing on the chopping block!

Lets have a look at it before the bathroom makeover:

bathroom beforeThe picture doesn’t tell the whole story… there is hole in the wall below the bathroom window where the toilet paper holder was, the towel bar wasn’t doing anything for us, the kids often messed up the “pretty” towel, the mirror had a chip from an installing accident, and the roman shade I spent hours making was only every down once, making it a giant dust trap!

Drum roll please…

What do you think?

I found these 2 mirrors at the Home Depot for $24 each, they couldn’t match the vanity any better!

Replaced the towel bar with towel hooks

I replaced the light fixture for this Home Depot capris shell one for only $28! It really helped to make the bathroom more feminine. The towel bar was replaced with a set of hooks I found at a discount store, mounted on a board we had in the scrap pile. This was the best idea I had yet- the kids hang their PJ’s there, and a towel is always in reach from the shower.

bathroom details

The color looks different in every light, sometimes more pink, others more orange. The paint color is called Coral Serenade. I thought Mr. Fynes might kill me when he came home and seen the color, but it brought so much light into our drab bathroom, he actually says it looks like a light is on all the time!

$5 bathroom curtain

I found this piece of fabric in the remnants bin at Fabricville, it couldn’t have worked better. I added a small piece of lining and a velcro strip to hang it from the existing rod.

pretty faux flowersI wanted to add some posies to the room and actually wanted them to last more than a week, so I sprung for some fakies! I got these pretty guys at the Wicker Emporium for only $9.

Faux flowers in a mint masonI dressed up this honey jar by painting it mint, and adding a faux orchid. The cute little birds are from Abbot home (they are salt and pepper, but too cute).

So fresh, so clean print

I got this So Fresh, and So Clean Clean print on Etsy from Happy Little Hangings. It is the perfect color combination! Before and AfterCan you believe how great it looks for only $150?! A little bit of paint goes a long way!

I have to be honest, the white bath mats lasted about a week, they were a bad idea, too many dirty kid feet at my house, good they were next to nothing!

Bathroom makeover expenses

Now that I’ve looked after the bathroom I need to tackle the bedroom, kitchen, and foyer. I can probably do that with the left over $100 Home Depot gift card, right?!

This is a super busy blog week, I’ll be coming to you a bit more than usual, but hang onto Friday, I have a great giveaway and some exciting news coming up! Thanks for stopping by!

Oh my gosh! I love, love, love these colors! My guest bath is purple and green with frogs everywhere, (was kids bathroom), but now the kids are gone and I am so wishy washy about change. But teal is my new favorite and I didn’t know how to incorporate it, now I know!!! Thanks so much!!!
